Eye Care We Care School Scheme
Last updated:
Eye Emporium are proud partner of the 'Eye Care We Care' School Scheme created by HOYA
This scheme has been created specifically for children and aims to partner teachers and Eye Care Professionals together to improve knowledge of eye health in an innovative and fun way for children.
Are you confident that your child's vision is actually good?
Most learning typically takes place through our eyes and it is alarming to learn that most schools do not have any scheme in place which focuses on the importance of healthy eyesight and overall eye health.Vision screening doesn’t take place in schools as it once did, and teachers are less aware of what to look out for in their classrooms.
This is why we're partnering with HOYA's Eye Care We Care Scheme Scheme to raise awareness about eye health and myopia management in children.
What we’re doing
By taking part in this wonderful initiative, we aim to help the community. Our expert opticians and optometrists are periodically visiting local schools in order to educate children, parents and school staff alike about the importance of eye health, vision screening, and myopia management. This is done in an interactive, fun learning environment, where children feel safe while getting to know all about eye health and eye tests, so that they won’t be scared the next time they visit the opticians..
What Schools can do
If you are School staff and you are interested in introducing the Eye Care We Care Scheme in your school, you can get in touch with your local Eye Emporium practice.Simply mention the Eye Care We Care Scheme and we’ll plan a visit to your school. There is a lot we can do together!
Myopia is a threat for children According to research, the number of short-sighted children has significantly increased over the past decade with myopia being one of the most common issues in children’s eyesight today.
The number of myopic children is expected to further increase. In fact, more than half of the population in the world could be short-sighted by 2050.
How to manage myopia
Myopia is irreversible, but slowing down the progression of myopia in children is now possible thanks to MiyoSMART spectacle lenses and their Special Technology developed by HOYA.Based on a two-year clinical trial results on 160 children aged 8-13, MiyoSmart is proven to curb myopia progression by 59% on average.
If you’d like to know more about these lenses, you can watch this video. You can also get in touch to find out whether MiyoSmart lenses are suitable for your child.
What parents/guardians should do
If you haven't made an appointment recently, book an eye test for your child. This will give our Opticians a chance to spot any problem or condition early, ensuring your child's life and learning are not affected by poor vision. We recommend booking an appointment every year before school starts again, but of course you can book during school holidays or whenever is more convenient to you.
If your child has already been diagnosed with myopia, consider MiyoSmart spectacle lenses for an effective Myopia Control practice.
We want all our little patients to have a brighter future, this is why we offer professional myopia control in all our London practices.
